I was born in Worthington, Ohio - a small town founded
in 1803. Worthington had a population of around 25,000 during my
formative years and was soon encapsulated by Columbus. My sister
was born about 6 years after me and we were a pretty normal, two kid,
two dog, Norman Rockwell family.
The elementary school was about two blocks east of me up
a hill; the junior high (middle school) was across the street from our
house and the high school was further west beyond the junior high.
Worthington was, and still is, a wonderful and beautiful place to live.
Following high school graduation, I matriculated at The
Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture
degree. While in college, I worked summers and whenever I could in
architectural offices; two thirds of way through college, I took a year
off to to re-energize myself in the real world of architecture. I
also added one year by adding studies in non-required courses such as journalism, art,
psychology and other courses in science.
During the my last year in the School of Architecture,
the architectural firm (McDonald, Cassell & Bassett Architects) for which I worked summers & evenings was
finishing a four building community college. After my graduation
in 1967, I found myself in the position of field representative for the
Architect. On the site, I was introduced to major players at the
college and soon found myself invited to join the Architectural
Technology staff. I did join and attained tenured status. My
teaching schedule was the morning and I continued with the architectural
firm during afternoons. Sometimes I worked for another firm (Eberts
& Stoerkel Architects) in the
evenings.
In 1969, I married Bonne Knepper. The marriage
ended in divorce five years later. No kids. I never
remarried.
I passed the state boards three years after graduation
and became Ohio Architect 4688.
I moved to San Diego in 1975 and gained my California Architectural
License C8510 in 1976. Working for Hope Consulting Group, I was
intimately involved with the $750 million VOTRAKON (Vocational Training
Construction) Project which included 21 Training Centers in 18 major
cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I was the Project Architect
for student and instructor housing. Another Architect handled the
Cafeterias & Mosques. I should mention that the Construction
Documents were all done in the metric system. Following
construction documents completion for the first few sites, I lived and
worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for 21 months doing Contract
Administration. I dealt with Saudi Arabian Ministries, a British
Construction Manager and general contractors from Saudi Arabia, South
Korea, Germany and America.
With the now retired firm of Liebhardt Weston &
Associates, I had my first training in AutoCAD; 1987 was a momentous
shift in my architectural orientation.
in 1992, I acquired Arizona Architectural License 26209.
I have worked for Martinez-Cutri Architects (established
their AutoCAD department) and JCJ Architecture (Project Architect for
Valley View Casino).
In 1994, I began consulting architectural CAD work in my
own office (please view Recent Projects tab).
I am unmarried, have two cats, several computers
and a house/office in the Clairemont area.
I love the practice of architecture and want to be
active in the profession until someone must pry my mouse from my cold,
dead hand!
